I wanted to share with you an interesting overview of the statistics on same-sex marriages in Australia. Information has been extracted from the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2020 https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/people/people-and-communities/marriages-and-divorces-australia/latest-release
2020 Stats Summary
In 2020:
there were 2,902 same-sex marriages; a decrease of 2,605 (47.3%) compared with 2019
nationally, more female same-sex couples married (61.4% of all same-sex marriages) than male same-sex couples (38.5%)
2020 - 1,117 male same sex marriages vs. 1,782 female same sex marriages
2019 - 2,262 male same sex marriages vs. 3,243 female same sex marriages 2018 - 2,757 male same sex marriage vs. 3,701 female same sex marriage
Question for you?
Anyone able to offer some further insight as to why more female same-sex couples get married than male same-sex couples?
Age Difference
On average, same sex couples are older than heterosexual couples. In a previous blog https://www.celebrationswithkimlynn.com.au/post/age-at-marriage-stats titled Age at Marriage (Stats), I highlighted that the average age to marry is 32.2 years for males & 30.6 years for females. However, the median age for couples in same-sex marriages is 37.2 years for males & 35.3 for females.
Question for you?
Anyone know why there is such a difference in age between hetrosexual couples getting married & same-sex couples getting married?
